To provide the opportunity for each Scout to learn and apply leadership and to expand his knowledge of the outdoors.
Troop 50, Menasha, WI was officially chartered on November 30, 1944 with 30 boys and 13 adults, and we plan to continue the tradition. Troop 50 is currently chartered by Knights of Columbus Council 1838, Menasha.
Troop 50 currently has approximately 20 active scouts. The troop has three youth patrols and one adult patrol. The youth patrol names are Phoenix (formerly known as the the Badger and Cobra patrols), Pedros (Standard patrol), and The Pirates(formerly known as The Flaming Dodgeballers and the SG-1 patrols). The adult patrol name is The DunDats (consists of the active adults in the troop).
Troop 50 is a Scout led Troop where the boys elect their leaders and plan their activities. The adults in the Troop serve as mentors and advisors.
Troop 50 meets on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 PM from September through May and participates in a weeklong summer camp usually the week of the July/August split.
Troop 50 has a long history of Community Service. It takes part in the "Scouting for Food" food drive and "Sack-it-to-Goodwill". Troop 50 also sponsors a two-mile stretch (from Oneida St. to Lake Park Road) of Hwy 10/114 in Menasha for cleanup. Troop 50 also does a number of service projects to help our Scouts that are working to earn the Eagle Rank.
Many of the adult leaders have completed the Boy Scouts Adult Leader Training. This training places the adults in a patrol meeting and campout conditions. These adults learn to function and have fun as a patrol. This knowledge provides the foundation for understanding how to guide the Scouts in a Scout Led Troop, how to organize an effective adult Troop Committee, and most importantly how to have fun.
All Scouts have the same opportunity to earn the rank of Eagle Scout and Troop 50 has produced many Eagle Scouts over its 60+ years history. The names of those 43 (and counting) Eagle Scouts are proudly displayed at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Menasha and on the troop trailer (images of the troop trailer can be found on the Misc page).
To prepare each Scout for this journey, the goal of the Troop is to instruct each Scout in the scouting basics and encourage him to achieve the Rank of First Class within their first year as a Boy Scout. After achieving the rank of First Class Scout he will have many opportunities to earn Merit Badges through Troop meetings, summer camp, and individual effort.
Troop 50 will provide you and your son an enjoyable time as you watch him grow as a Leader and a Scout.
